Class Attendance Requirements for Adjunct Faculty:

Attendance Expectation

All adjunct faculty members are expected to attend every scheduled class session for which they are assigned. Regular attendance is essential to maintain instructional continuity and uphold the academic standards of the institution. Students depend on consistent instruction, and faculty presence is critical their academic success.

Notification Requirements

If an adjunct faculty member cannot attend a scheduled class, the following notification protocol must be followed:

  • Immediate Notification:
    Contact the Dean's office as soon as possible when you become aware that you will be unable to attend class.
  • Advance Notice Preferred:
    Whenever feasible, provide advance notice to allow for appropriate coverage arrangements.
  • Emergency Situations:
    In cases of sudden illness or emergency, notification should occur no later than one hour before the scheduled class time, or as soon as reasonably possible.

Communication Method

Notification should be made via:

  • Direct phone call to the Dean's office
  • Email to the Dean with "Class Absence" in the subject line
  • If unable to reach the Dean directly, contact the department administrative assistant.

Compensation

Adjunct faculty will not receive compensation for any missed class sessions. Payment is contingent upon actual instruction delivered. This requirement applies regardless of the reason of absence.

Coverage Arrangements

The Dean's office will work to arrange substitute coverage or alternative instructional methods. Work with your Dean to determine the communication to students regarding the class.

Documentation

  • Excessive absences may impact future teaching assignment opportunities.
  • Complete the Absence Notification form and submit to the Dean (Appendix C).
